The Row Opens Up New Flagship Store in LA

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

The Row LA Flagship Store

27 year old twin sisters, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, opened the first flagship store for their fashion line, The Row, just recently. The Olsens’ wanted the store to represent Los Angeles, where the Row began nearly a decade ago, so they worked with local designers, David Montalba and Courtney Applebaum, to create a modern 3,800-square-feet of pure elegance and minimalist aesthetic. Located at 8840 Melrose Place, the store has been described by the fashion gurus as a “hidden gem”,  because it is not visible from the street and customers have to pass through white double doors and a narrow black courtyard to reach it.

‘We’ve always wanted our own store; it’s always been part of the plan,” Mary-Kate said. “It was a toss-up between New York and LA., and when this space became available, we jumped on it.  It used to be a hair salon and my sister and I used to come here, so we were very aware of the space.

“We had been coming here since we were, like, 10 years old,” added Ashley. “We are from here and The Row started here, so it was all very appropriate.”

“Ultimately, for us, it was about setting it up like a home and just having the apparel be a part of the space,” said Ashley.

Here are some pictures of the absolutely amazing space:

I am in complete awe and love the simplistic style of the store.

4 Basic Steps to Ensure You Enjoy Your Shopping Experience

I am very passionate about fashion and I LOVE clothes, but sometimes shopping can be a painful, tiring, and degrading experience. So I put together four basic steps that will ensure you enjoy your shopping experience every time.

1. Comfortable, seamless underwear

Seamless Underwear

There is nothing worse than shopping for a few hours (or an entire day) with uncomfortable underwear that you are constantly fixing up. What is also just as bad, is trying on clothes in the change room and seeing your underwear or the seam line through the clothes. I definitely recommend wearing your most comfortable underwear, preferably seamless, in a classic nude or white. This will ensure no seam lines or underwear are visible when trying on new garments, and will ensure you get the most accurate view of what the garment will look like on you when worn properly.

2. Strapless bra

Strapless Bra

Wearing a strapless bra shopping is probably one of the best decisions you could make. When trying on clothes, a strapless bra is ideal for more than one reason – it is easy to take off/put on when you’re trying on something that will be/needs to be worn bra-less; it sits great under all basic tops and dresses; and it gives you an accurate view of what a strapless garment will look like on without the hassle of the ugly ‘tuck your bra straps into the side of your bra’ trick (which really doesn’t look good). Like recommended with the underwear, opting for a nude or white bra is best.

3. Easy to slip on and off basic outfit

Basics #2

The most annoying thing about trying on new clothes is having to constantly undress and dress yourself. So avoid time consuming, uncomfortable, annoying outfits that take you an extra 10 minutes to take off/put on in the change room – jeans, garments with zips at the back that you require assistance to do up completely, garments that need to be completely buttoned up/down, tops that need to be tucked in etc. I recommend pairing a cute, light weight, printed skirt (high waisted or maxi) or pair of shorts (can even be a pair of denim shorts) with a basic t-shirt or crop top; a simple maxi dress; or a basic t-shirt dress. This will ensure that you are comfortable throughout your whole shopping trip and trying on new clothes will be less irritating.

4.  Basic flats or sandals

Basics #3

You want to opt for a pair of shoes that are easy to walk in, comfortable, supportive of your foot and easy to put on and take off. It makes your shopping trip that much easier when you wear a simple pair of basic flats that are easy to take off/put on, especially when you are shoe shopping. This will save you a lot of time and effort. Sometimes opting for a pair of shoes with a small heel, or a pair of flat forms is a good idea also – this will elongate your legs (giving you a sense of height) and will flatter not only your outfit, but also your body. Always try to avoid shoes with numerous buckles, laces, and shoes that you have to wear socks or sockets with.

Kim and Kanye Take Vogue

Kim and Kanye Take Vogue

The worlds most talked about couple, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, cover the April issue of the high-end fashion magazine, Vogue. After months of speculation, the soon-to-be newly weds have finally fulfilled their dream of posing for the cover of Vogue. Showing off her stunning (and not to mention, huge!) engagement ring and donned in a chic white gown, Kardashian poses in front of fiancé West, dressed in a slick black suit, as he wraps his arms around her.

The April issue is giving readers a firsthand look inside the couple’s “fashionable life and surreal times”, including a beautiful series of portraits shot by, Annie Leibovitz. Baby North (Nori), was there too and appears in a behind-the-scenes video of the shoot.

Editor-in-chief of American Vogue, Anna Wintour, has addressed her decision to have Kimye grace the cover of Vogue, writing in her ‘letter from the editor’;

“Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it. I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?),”

“As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue‘s cover. He did nothing of the sort. The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true.”

The April issue of Vogue is available in stores from the 31st of March, and digitally from the 24th of March.

Aussie Babe, Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie Elle Australia Shoot

23 year old Margot Robbie, most famous for her recent performance as Naomi Lapaglia, has finally become the Hollywood star Australia has dreamed of. Local Gold Coast babe, formally known as Donna Freedmon in Australian TV drama series, Neighbours, landed her first major role in Martin Scorsese’s film, The Wolf of Wall Street, alongside Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill and Hollywood royalty, Leonardo Dicaprio. Her role as Naomi Lapaglia (Jordan Beltford’s mistress, turned wife) saw a whole new side to Margot’s acting; a lot of nudity, glamour, attitude, and a perfected Brooklyn accent, landing her an amazing six nominations.

Margot graced the cover of Elle Australia’s March Issue and scored herself a six page spread (dressed head-to-toe in Giambattista Valli, Zimmerman, Stella McCartney and Gucci) in which she spoke about “fame, fashion and slapping Leo in the face”. After the shoot Margot curls up on a couch and explains that to make photo shoots feel more homely, she always asks the stylist to have some Australian brands available. She then went on to tell Elle Australia that “[she] wants to rep [her] home country, [because] the clothes are so much better in Australia. In America, there are a vast amount of options in the low-price range and in the high-price range, but nothing in between. In Australia, there’s oodles: Zimmerman, Shakuhachi, Manning Cartell, Alice McCall.”

Margot has also been named one of fashions’ new darlings after sitting front row at the Miu Miu Fall/Winter 2014 show during Paris Fashion Week alongside Rhianna, Lupita Nyong’o, Elizabeth Olsen, Elle Fanning and Bella Heathcote. She wore a demure grey Miu Miu dress, styled with a bright red coat and a pair of floral heels. Like a true fashion guru, she completed her look with a small black belt around her waist, and a metallic Miu Miu handbag.

Kendall Jenner: From Reality Star to Runway Model

I know I am a few weeks behind (due to my absence on my blog) in what has struck huge controversy in the fashion and entertainment industries, but I wanted to touch upon the subject of Kendall Jenner and her recent growth within the fashion industry.

The 6th of February saw the beginning of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. To say social media hit complete madness would be an understatement, with outlets such as Tumblr, Instagram and Facebook flooding with images from the runways; in particular, Marc Jacobs. Kendall made her first runway debut for Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2014 Collection.

Kendall was seen walking down the runway sporting a short bob held back with a thick headband, and bleached eye brows; both seeming to be the ‘in’ look this season. But what obviously sparked most controversy was the sight of Kendall’s nipples as she walked down the runway in a complete see-through long sleeved v-neck top.

She received a collection of criticism on social media, with many people stating that “the look was inappropriate for Kendall”, and “at the young age of 18 she shouldn’t be baring her chest and exposing her nipples”. However, what I don’t understand is how no one seemed to care about the other models baring their chests and exposing their nipples on the Marc Jacobs Fall 2014 runway.

This is something that we should be accustomed to in the fashion industry. Supermodels such as Kate Moss and Rosie Huntington-Whitely have both rocked completely sheer tops sporting their bare chests on the runway before, and it hasn’t seemed to bother anyone inside of the fashion industry.

Personally, I think Kendall owned her walk on the Marc Jacobs runway and looked absolutely stunning. Since debuting with Marc Jacobs, she has already walked for Givenchy in Paris, Chanel in Paris and Giles in London. As if that wasn’t excitement enough for the upcoming supermodel, she also sat front row at the TopShop Unique show in London alongside Anna Wintour and Kate Moss. Kendall was also featured on Love Magazine’s Instagram and starred in an Instagram photo shoot for Vogue.

NYFW Runway Report: Rachel Zoe

Rachel Zoe S/S 2014 Collection Favourites

Rachel Zoe S/S 2014 Collection Favourites #3

Rachel Zoe S/S 2014 Collection Favourites #2

Rachel Zoe’s vivd 60’s and 70’s inspiration was alive and out-spoken for her Spring/Summer 2014 Collection. She cleverly designed a heavily monochromatic collection with a large variety of fabrics and displayed true ready-to-wear garments such as ‘destroyed’ boyfriend jeans paired with a cute white cropped top and tailored blazer; black high-waisted leather shorts with a sheer black top and super cool tailored leather jacket; and simple white 3/4 sleeved shift dress with gold detailing.

Her models portrayed the 60’s and 70’s inspiration walking down the runway with messy roll-out-of-bed braided hair. Rachel Zoe bought an amazing balance to the runway – 60’s and 70’s inspiration contrasting modern, tailored garments. The collection is elegant and effortless with a hard edge, bringing forward great trends that everyone is now dying to wear.

NYFW Runway Report: Sass & Bide

Sass & Bide is one of my all time favourite designers and I was extremely excited to see their new collection showcased on the runway at New York Fashion Week. The Spring/Summer 2014 Collection is based around themes from past eras and contrasts that with futuristic, modern looks. With a predominate colour palette of black and white, ‘FREETOWN’ incorporates clever pops of gold, navy, pale blue, hot orange and cherry red.

Sass & Bide S/S 2014 Collection Favourites #3

Sass & Bide displayed a signature collection with structured jackets, gingham playsuits, floaty dresses, gold embroidery, maxi-lengths, chiffon overlays and simple, fun prints which create the perfect ready-to-wear range. The tailored looks added a playful edge to the collection by pairing beaded trim blazers with black mesh, shorts and skirt overlays. The layered combos bought forward a hint of sports and youth, whilst the sheer, chiffon garments added femininity and subtle sexiness.

There is no denying Sass & Bide killed it on the runway in New York – living up to the high expectations of their anticipated ready-to-wear range. I’m absolutely in love with this collection and cannot wait to get my hands on some of the pieces!

Sass & Bide’s first international flagship boutique is set to open in New York this November – how exciting!
