Sass & Bide is one of my all time favourite designers and I was extremely excited to see their new collection showcased on the runway at New York Fashion Week. The Spring/Summer 2014 Collection is based around themes from past eras and contrasts that with futuristic, modern looks. With a predominate colour palette of black and white, ‘FREETOWN’ incorporates clever pops of gold, navy, pale blue, hot orange and cherry red.
Sass & Bide displayed a signature collection with structured jackets, gingham playsuits, floaty dresses, gold embroidery, maxi-lengths, chiffon overlays and simple, fun prints which create the perfect ready-to-wear range. The tailored looks added a playful edge to the collection by pairing beaded trim blazers with black mesh, shorts and skirt overlays. The layered combos bought forward a hint of sports and youth, whilst the sheer, chiffon garments added femininity and subtle sexiness.
There is no denying Sass & Bide killed it on the runway in New York – living up to the high expectations of their anticipated ready-to-wear range. I’m absolutely in love with this collection and cannot wait to get my hands on some of the pieces!
Sass & Bide’s first international flagship boutique is set to open in New York this November – how exciting!

Rebecca Taylor’s Spring/Summer 2014 Collection was inspired by a French movie about red wine – stating that “the world is so full of ugly, why not make something beautiful”. The collection showcases beauty, femininity and cleanliness with a modern twist.
The romantic collection executes small, fitted, cropped-silouhettes balanced with the volume of the pants, skirts and shorts in a neutral palette. Sheer cut-outs, perforated leather and splashes of print bought forward a hard edge. Rebecca Taylor indicated to the fashion world that layering is a well suited trend for Spring this year and proved on the runway that she knows how to do it perfectly. The collection was nothing but amazing, leaving the runway audience in love and in awe.
Leading Australian designer Nicky and Simone Zimmerman made their debut appearance at New York Fashion Week for their label, Zimmerman, and what an awesome decision! It is such an honour as an Australian to see her designs on the runway overseas for all the fashion-lovers to experience. As Sydney girls, the sisters are constantly inspired by the beach sides surrounding the suburbs of Sydney and their homes and their was a clear reflection of that in their garments. The Spring/Summer 2014 stuck to true elements of femininity and elegance seen throughout each of their collections and added mixes of volume through bold metallics and high-cut necklines.
The collections circus theme was expressed through fun prints and unique hems. It was also executed through print clashing, sport-inspired shapes and a unique mixture of cuts and texture.
It is safe to say that New York fell in love with the jaw-dropping collection showcased on the runway this year. All fashion lovers at NYFW will be keeping their fingers crossed with hope and anticipation that Zimmerman returns to the runway next Fashion Week.
Make sure you have a look at the entire Zimmerman S/S 2014 Collection, which can be found here under Zimmerman Runway Photos.
There is no better way to kick off New York Fashion Week than to begin the runway shows with BCBG Max Azria. BCBG Max Azria defined his Spring/Summer 2014 Collection with the contrast of hard and soft elements – juxtaposing leather harnesses, sheer materials, lace and a neutral colour palette with art-deco inspired prints, water coloured floral prints, graphic prints and bold statements with black and white materials.
The collection expressed delicacy, elegance and freshness whilst maintaining flattering structure. Sheer paneling was a clear favourite of the collection, revealing hints of skin and bringing forward femininity and slight sexiness. Max and Lubov Azria’s chic deconstructed collection gave us an insight into a new perspective of these timeless garments and certainly made all women fall in love with every garment the collection entailed.

It would be a complete understatement to say that Alexander Wang never ceases to amaze. And yet again, he has absolutely killed it on the runway at New York Fashion Week, leaving all passionate fashionistas in awe of his latest collection. It is no doubt one of the most important shows of the week in New York and nobody wants to miss out! This collection collaborates and combines Wang’s signature cocoon shapes, loose fits and leather domination with frilly crop tops, single button cardigans, blue PJ-like stripes, print-pairing skirts, tops and high-waisted shorts, origami trousers and adds a new patent fabric to every girls shopping list.
My favourites from the collection included:

Continuing the theme of ‘knowing your angles’ from last weeks challenge, the top 7 girls were photographed for a multi-page spread in Cosmopolitan magazine! To top off the excitement, they were also joined by Cosmopolitan’s Editor, Bronwyn McCahon, and Fashion Director, Nicole Adolphe, during the shoot.
Unfortunately, after delivering what was said to be the worst photo from the shoot, Shannon was sent home. Here are the photos from the remaining 6 models from the shoot:

Unfortunately, I have been extremely busy with uni assessments and study that I have fallen behind with my New York Fashion Week Runway Reports. I will be posting runway reports from my favourite designers throughout NYFW a little behind time (and a little out-of-order) – but better late than never right? So, be sure to keep posted and up-to-date with my blog as I will be starting those posts tomorrow!
Hope you’re all enjoying fashion week as much as I am.
