I know I am a few weeks behind (due to my absence on my blog) in what has struck huge controversy in the fashion and entertainment industries, but I wanted to touch upon the subject of Kendall Jenner and her recent growth within the fashion industry.
The 6th of February saw the beginning of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. To say social media hit complete madness would be an understatement, with outlets such as Tumblr, Instagram and Facebook flooding with images from the runways; in particular, Marc Jacobs. Kendall made her first runway debut for Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2014 Collection.
Kendall was seen walking down the runway sporting a short bob held back with a thick headband, and bleached eye brows; both seeming to be the ‘in’ look this season. But what obviously sparked most controversy was the sight of Kendall’s nipples as she walked down the runway in a complete see-through long sleeved v-neck top.
She received a collection of criticism on social media, with many people stating that “the look was inappropriate for Kendall”, and “at the young age of 18 she shouldn’t be baring her chest and exposing her nipples”. However, what I don’t understand is how no one seemed to care about the other models baring their chests and exposing their nipples on the Marc Jacobs Fall 2014 runway.
This is something that we should be accustomed to in the fashion industry. Supermodels such as Kate Moss and Rosie Huntington-Whitely have both rocked completely sheer tops sporting their bare chests on the runway before, and it hasn’t seemed to bother anyone inside of the fashion industry.
Personally, I think Kendall owned her walk on the Marc Jacobs runway and looked absolutely stunning. Since debuting with Marc Jacobs, she has already walked for Givenchy in Paris, Chanel in Paris and Giles in London. As if that wasn’t excitement enough for the upcoming supermodel, she also sat front row at the TopShop Unique show in London alongside Anna Wintour and Kate Moss. Kendall was also featured on Love Magazine’s Instagram and starred in an Instagram photo shoot for Vogue.
